Police have launched an investigation after a suspicious letter was sent to the Palace of Holyroodhouse this afternoon.

Police officers were called to the scene just after midday..

Several fire engines also attended and officers cordoned off the street outside the building.

The contents of the letter have now been analysed and officers have confirmed that there was no risk to the public.

A police spokesperson said: “We can confirm that the suspicious letter that was delivered to the Palace of Holyroodhouse on Wednesday 7th June has been analysed and found not to pose any risk to the public.

“An investigation is now underway to identify the sender and establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident.”
