The Edinburgh Reporter went along to have a look at the new Courtyard Edinburgh on Baxter’s Place today. It is no longer a building site as it was on our last visit! Now the fire in the entrance hall is lit, the reception area is buzzing with visitors, and the terrace parasols are in place complete with heaters and cosy rugs.

We had a word with General Manager Douglas Winfield about the kind of hotel this is :

It is housed in a Georgian terrace just beside The Playhouse making it an ideal meeting place for pre-theatre drinks and food.

It is near to the tramstop on York Place, making it an excellent venue to meet before the rugby.

And it is a great venue for business meetings as the hotel offers free wifi and a boardroom for up to 16 delegates. We like very much the media pods which would allow you to sit in some privacy with a  TV screen available to show a presentation to several people at once.

The GoBoard in the reception area has information for guests including where they can eat in the local area.

There are 240 bedrooms in the three adjoining townhouses connecting into a new building at the rear which has great views to Calton Hill.

The Lantern Room has an all-day bar and restaurant with a private dining area available. The name offers a clue to the links with Robert Stevenson the lighthouse engineer  who previously lived there and there are many references to that heritage across the whole hotel.

This is the third Courtyard by Marriott in Scotland following the others in Glasgow and Aberdeen. This building was developed by Edinburgh-based Chris Stewart Group and will be operated by an independent hotel management company, Redefine|BDL Hotels.
