Scottish field hockey export Hamish Imrie is loving life on course to join two international team-mates in the top division of Dutch field hockey.

He is riding high with Schaerweijde in pole position the second tier of hockey in The Netherlands and the ambitious Scot is finding the net.

Edinburgh-born Imrie, a former Fettes pupil, and an ex-Hibs youth signing, is also settling into an apartment in Amsterdam.

The free-scoring striker also featured in the local press after Sundayā€™s game for the 80-year-old, Utrecht-based club have around 2,000 members and is housed in one of the top sports complex in Holland.

They have invested heavily in a bid to clinch promotion to the top flight of Dutch hockey and Imrie would love to join striker Kenny Bain and defender David Forsyth, both former Bromac Kelburne stars, who already play for clubs in the top flight.

Currently, the club enters the winter break – which lasts until March 5 – undefeated with a three point lead over Cartouche in the title race.
Imrie said: ā€œItā€™s been a busy time both on and off the pitch.

ā€œIt was proving impossible to find a place (to stay) but now weā€™ve succeeded.

ā€œHopefully, can start to settle in now a bit more.ā€

The Great Britain under-21 forward, whose ambition is to play in the Olympic Games, added: ā€œHolland is going well. Iā€™ve doubled the amount of training I am doing on the pitch each week which should only improve my game.

ā€œIā€™m training with some fantastic players which I can learn from.ā€

The former Grange star, who has scored two goals so far this season, his first after switching from Nottingham-based Beeston, who he helped win the English Cup last season, added: ā€œWe we are going well in the league and went top on Sunday.

ā€œWeā€™re really pushing for top spot (at the end of the season) so we have the best chance to reach the play-offs.

ā€œThe support at games is brilliant. Against Escpailly at home and in the local derby the other week we had a crowd which was estimated at about 2,000 supporters. I managed to score which was great.ā€
