A police investigation is underway after a Mercedes car crashed into a stationary caravan on Groathill Road North just after 8am this morning..

The driver and passengers fled the scene and  officers have been searching the area for the vehicle occupants.

The police helicopter has been deployed to support the search.

A police spokeswoman said: “Police responded to a report of a car driving erratically on Groathill Road North around 8.10am on Wednesday.

“The vehicle was subsequently involved in a collision with a stationary caravan on Groathill Road North.

“Inquiries are ongoing to trace the individuals believed to have been inside the vehicle.

“The search activity is being supported by colleagues in the air support unit.”
