Hazel Smith, an Edinburgh-based hydrologist and AECOM employee has been selected to participate in Rio 2016 Paralympic Games as a member of Team GB.

She will take on the role of guide for para-triathlete Alison Patrick who is also Scottish, and they will participate together in the para-triathlon event on Copacabana beach.

As Alison’s guide, Hazel will be tethered to the paratriathlete and guide her throughout the 750m swim, tandem 20km cycle and 5km run.

Hazel and Alison have been training together since 2014. Commenting on her selection, Hazel said: ”I am honoured to have been selected to compete with Alison in the Paralympics GB Team.”

Prior to training for the Paralympics,  Hazel worked full-time at AECOM. Her projects included the North Glasgow integrated water management strategy, and she intends to return to AECOM in October.
