Kicking off with the tradition that is Gala Day and Pageant (Saturday 11th June) This year see’s the return of a live music stage on the Links with performances from…Boots For Dancing, Andy Chung, Gus Harrower, The Phoenix Choir….and a performer that transcends all ages, Mr Boom!!!

The Gala Day Kids Zone will also be packed full of fun with Tricky Ricky, The Barrow Band, The Hula Honeys, Kalli Kids, Bouncy Castles, pony rides and so much more!!!

The Festival week itself from Saturday 11th – Sunday 19th June has a full programme of 43 events taking place in 27 different venues across the whole of EH6. You will be able to enjoy historical theatre performances from the Citadel Arts Group and Out of the Blue as well as more contemporary theatre with Theatre Imperative. Music from the likes of the folk duo – Coaltown Daisies, funk legends – Lights Out BY Nine, rock guitarist, Willie Logan and for the more traditionalist of you can pop along to the Malmaison Hotel to listen to the sounds of the Rat Pack or pop along to the Leith St Andrew’s Church for some ‘Hooked on Classics’.

Also as part of the programming we have The Trainspotting Tour which I’m sure will prove to be very successful, The History of Leith – an audio guided tour starting at the Leith Dockers Club, as well as a guided tour around Seafield Crematorium and a historical tour of Hibernian Football Club…which I’m sure will be proudly showing off the recently acquired ‘Scottish Cup’.

Add all that to art exhibitions such as – Art by the Sea (Coburg Street Gallery), the Gary Miller exhibition (Sofi’s Bar), Exposed 16 – Edinburgh College (Out of the Blue), Poetry at the Cameo Bar from CultFusion #3 and a walk around the Maritime Museum down at Trinty House (Kirkgate), Leith Festival 2016 quite literally has something for everyone.

Leith Festival, as always, wraps with its traditional closing ceremony, The Leith Festival Tattoo, which will be held on Sunday 19th June at the Piazza on the Shore on Tower Street. The performance begins at 7pm and has attracted performers such as Siamsoir Irish Dance Academy, Regimental Band of the Black Watch Battalion, Army Cadet Force, Sanfoka Beats African Dance & Drum Group, The Polish Dance Ensemble and the Musselburgh & Penicuik Boy’s Brigade Pipes & Drums.
