Police are appealing for witnesses following a robbery in the west of the city over the weekend.

The incident happened around 7.50pm yesterday in the Broomhall area.

A 36-year-old man had just withdrawn a two-figure sum of cash from the ATM outside the CC Express store on Broomhall Drive and walked onto Broomhall Road when a male approached and threatened him before demanding he hand over the money.

At this time the victim noticed another male standing close by watching what was happening. He surrendered the money and returned to the cash machine where he withdrew the same sum and also handed this over.

Both suspects then made off towards the Tesco supermarket and police were contacted.

The first male is described as white, around 30-years-old, 5ft 10ins tall with a slim build and thin face. He was wearing a black woolly hat, dark jacket, dark trousers and a dark scarf covering the lower half of his face.

The second male is described only as wearing dark clothing and a chunky black woollen hat.

Officers are now urging anyone who can assist with their enquiries to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Alan O’Brien said: “The victim was not assaulted or harmed during this incident but was left understandably shaken following the theft of his money.

“Anyone who remembers seeing any suspicious activity in Broomhall Drive or Broomhall Road on Sunday evening is asked to contact police immediately.

“In addition, anyone who recognises the description of the suspects and can help us to trace them is also asked to get in touch.”

Those with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or alternatively the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
