Police are investigating after a woman was robbed of her mobile phone in Albert Street around 5.10am this morning.

A man approached the 30-year-old victim and managed to steal her phone before making off towards Easter Road.

The woman gave chase and was assisted by a few members of the public. During this time police were contacted.

A male is currently detained in connection with this matter. However, officers are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident and ask them to come forward.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “While we are following a very positive line of enquiry, we would still like to hear from members of the public who were on Albert Street or Easter Road at around 5.10am on Tuesday morning and remember seeing anything suspicious.

“In particular, we would like to speak with the members of the public who helped the victim pursue the male and would ask these individuals to contact police immediately and assist with our enquiries.”

Those with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or alternatively, the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
