LOCAL COMMUNITY RUGBY CLUB IS RAISING VITAL FUNDS TO SUPPORT LEADING CHARITY BREAKTHROUGH BREAST CANCER

Boroughmuir Rugby and Community Sports Club (BR&CSC) in Edinburgh are hosting a special breast cancer awareness match to raise vital funds for Breakthrough Breast Cancer, the UK’s leading charity dedicated to stopping women dying from breast cancer.

Boroughmuir Rugby are going head to head with Stewart Melville RFC at 3pm on Saturday 3 November 2013 at Meggetland and is hoping to raise an incredible £1,000 for the charity’s life-saving work. During the match players from Boroughmuir Rugby will be wearing one pink sock and there will be bucket collection before and after the match.

Malcolm Clapperton, Director of Rugby from Boroughmuir Rugby said: “We’re really looking forward to the game on Saturday, and to raising lots of money for this incredible cause. Everyone knows someone affected by breast cancer so it’s crucial that we continue to support Breakthrough Breast Cancer’s vital research and help save lives.”

Bill Watson, Chairperson of BRCSC commented: “We are very pleased to be able to support Breakthrough Breast Cancer in this manner. As part of our community programmes, we understand the importance of raising awareness and helping find raise for this worth charity.”

The need for Breakthrough Breast Cancer’s work has never been greater; breast cancer is still the most commonly diagnosed cancer amongst women in the Scotland, affecting over 4,500 women each year and killing 1,000 each year. Breakthrough is dedicated to saving lives through improving early diagnosis, developing new treatments and preventing all types of breast cancer.
