Police Scotland is appealing for witnesses following a serious assault in Edinburgh’s city centre.

The incident happened around 11.45pm on Friday 28th June on Frederick Street.

A 32-year-old man who was out within the city as part of a stag party was walking past the Trespass store as he made his way towards Princes Street when a male approached and struck him to the face.

The victim then fell to the ground, striking his head off the ground and suffering serious injury. He was taken to hospital, where he continues to be treated.

Following the assault, the suspect made off west along Rose Street in the company of two other males. Officers are now urging anyone who can assist with their enquiries to come forward.

The suspect is described as white, 5ft 8ins tall with a stocky build and short blond hair. He was wearing blue trousers, a blue T-shirt and tan working boots.

Detective Constable Richard Johnston said: “This was an entirely unprovoked assault that left the victim with a serious head injury and we are keen to hear from anyone who can help us trace the male responsible.

“Anyone who was on Frederick Street on Friday evening and witnessed the attack, or who has information that can help with our investigation is asked to contact police immediately.

“Similarly, anyone who recognises the description of the suspect and perhaps saw him and his friends in the area, or making off down Rose Street is also asked to get in touch.”

Those with information can contact Police Scotland 101 or alternatively, the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
