Police in Edinburgh are appealing for witnesses to a serious road collision where an elderly woman was trapped under a taxi.

The incident occurred in the Morningside area around 12.55pm on Tuesday of this week.

A black seven-seater Peugeot taxi was involved in a collision with the 76-year-old woman as it turned from Morningside Road into the drop-off area outside the Marks and Spencer store.

The woman sustained multiple injuries and was freed by the Fire Service, before being taken by ambulance to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, where she is recovering.

Anyone in the area at that time who may have witnessed the incident is encouraged to contact Police Scotland on 101.
