So who was there in the newly glittering and fancy Assembly Rooms to see Sir Chris Hoy receive the Freedom of the City of Edinburgh from the Lord Provost, Donald Wilson? Well our reporter Thomas Haywood was there…..and here are his photos of the event. There are Olympic athletes, Paralympic athletes, volunteers who assisted in London, some Olympic torchbearers and a few dignitaries!

The ‘Freedom Scroll’ reads:

AT EDINBURGH ON SIXTEEN SEPTEMBER,

TWO THOUSAND AND TWELVE

THE LORD PROVOST AND MEMBERS

OF THE CITY OF EDINBURGH COUNCIL

BESTOWED THE HONOUR OF

THE FREEDOM OF THE CITY ON

SIR CHRIS HOY

In recognition of his cycling achievements at successive Olympic Games, culminating in him becoming Great Britain’s most successful Olympian ever at the London 2012 Olympic Games.  Already a recipient of the Edinburgh Award, which honours outstanding individuals who have made a positive impact on the city and gained national and international recognition for Edinburgh, his exceptional Olympic achievements were deserving of the most prestigious honour his home city could bestow.
