Police in Edinburgh are appealing for witnesses after a child was involved in a collision with a car in Newcraighall at the weekend.

The girl (7) was not seriously hurt in the incident, which happened in Newcraighall Road around 3pm on Saturday 10 March.

She was returning from the local shop with friends when she was clipped in the face by the wing mirror of the vehicle, which is described as a black, medium-sized hatchback.

The driver of the car pulled over at a bus stop further along the road and remonstrated with the children, who he thought had deliberately struck his car. It is possible that he did not realise what had happened.

He is described as white, between 40 and 50, of large build, with greying short hair.

A police spokesman said:- “Thankfully the child suffered no more than a cut lip as a result of being struck by the wing mirror, however we are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to contact police.

“It is possible that the driver did not realise that his car had struck the child, and we would also urge him to contact police as soon as possible so that we can build a full picture of the circumstances.”

Anyone with any information should contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or Crimestoppers in confidence and complete anonymity on 0800 555 111.
