The council’s Economic Development Committee meet tomorrow morning when they will be told that the amount of capital residents claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance are on the up.

The total number of Edinburgh claimants has increased for the seventh month in a row, roughly in line with other cities of comparative size. Notwithstanding this, and despite retail sales decreasing in the last quarter which goes against the national trend, there will be good news for the committee to discuss too.

The Economic Development Service  (EDS) is reporting £30m of new investment into the city, including the new Boroughmuir High School in Fountainbridge, which means that the council is on target to meet its goal of introducing £500million new investment into the physical regeneration of the city.

Meanwhile EDS has investigated such diverse subjects as the possible introduction of a tourist tax in Edinburgh,  and the profiling of what are described as high growth firms in the city.

The meeting will convene at 10 a.m. at the City Chambers. The Agenda is shown below
