The Scotsman is running another article in its series putting the council administration under the microscope. The unlikely coalition of the SNP and LibDems has defied all predictions yet again this week when the Leader and the Deputy Leader again ‘kissed and made up’ after their most recent spat at the last council meeting. Ā The Deputy Leader told The Reporter earlier in the week that there had been a bit of a misunderstanding at the last meeting, when he was trying to assist the LibDems to get more time to examine all the documents in the data room. They had apparently thought he was being critical of them, which he claims is not the case.

The next council meeting to decide on privatisation of some council services will be held at the end of the month, but there is a meeting at the City Chambers tonight when there will be a public debate over the matter of privatisation.

Edinburgh Voluntary Organisations Council has launched its manifesto ahead of the council elections in 2012. You can read it here.

The BBC report that a man has been charged with the murder of Suzanne Pilley who disappeared last year in the city centre. David GIlroy appeared at the High Court in Glasgow yesterday and a date for trial has been fixed for February 2012.

If you use a computer at the library, or use their internet you need to read this. The Tales of One City blog have informed us that:-

“We’ll shortly be carrying out some work to improve the performance of the libraries’ Peoples’ Network computers. This means there will be no internet access in libraries for a short time.

The work starts on 14th November and internet access will be restored to libraries on a rolling basis over the following two weeks. Wifi will also be affected.

We need to carry out this work in order to increase bandwidth and speed up the performance of these machines. This will improve response times for logging in and internet page loading.

If you need to know more please contact your local library for details of People’s Network availability during this period.”
