The Jungle City animals which have been nestling in the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh for the last few weeks have finally been allowed out into the wilds of Edinburgh to draw attention to their impending auction for charity on 29 September 2011. The purpose of these sculptures is to raise funds and awareness for their endangered relatives in Asia.

Today at the National Gallery of Scotland there were elephants, tigers, a hornbill with a 383 carat ruby from Tanzania set in a hand crafted sterling silver mask and some gaily painted crocodiles. The animals are kept moving around by one of the sponsors, local removal firm, Matt Purdie & Sons, who lovingly unpacked them all this morning for their press viewing before taking them to their new homes in the city centre. There are audio guides narrated by celebrities such as Gerry Halliwell and Stella Tennant and maps showing where all the animals are sited, all available from the Jungle City shop at Harvey Nichols.

If you want to bid for one of these lovely creatures then you can register online at the Ebay website.. The bidding starts on 22 September. Alternatively you can sponsor one of the sculptures by emailing sponsor@jungle-city.org

We have interviews which you can listen to here.
