Today is a local holiday, and probably a good day to have all the streets in the city centre closed for the first time for the remedial tram works along Princes Street. All buses have been rerouted from Princes Street to George Street. If you have a bike however then it could be a good option to use Princes Street as there is one lane open there which is empty this morning except for bikes.

  

As part of Take One Action there is a cycle powered cinema tonight at Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, starting at 7.30pm. You can get your tickets and more information here. You are warned to wear warm clothes!

A  white van was discovered in Newhaven Harbour last week and Greener Leith report that they have also found a burnt out car on the cycle path and have reported it using FixMyStreet. Discarded vehicles along with other rubbish are the responsibility of the local authority, and it can cost a lot of money to have them removed.

Students have been staging a sit in at Edinburgh University over the weekend to protest against the decision to charge the most expensive fees in Scotland for students from furth of Scotland. Bright Green Scotland has comments from some of those taking part and some student leaders. One of the main points of contention about the protest itself is that the students are not allowed freedom of access and the heating has not been turned on. Over the weekend the daytime temperatures were 16 degrees and 8 degrees Celsius at night. Here at Reporter towers we have not yet switched our heating on….
