The Big Lottery Fund’s Investing in communities has today announced four awards to Edinburgh based projects including a grant of over £700,000 for Edinburgh based Greyfriars Tolbooth & Highland Kirk.

Greyfriars Tolbooth & Highland Kirk will build a new extension which will help with their work in advancing employability and life skills for those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in Edinburgh.

Marco Biagi MSP commented:- “It is great to see initiatives such as Greyfriars being recognised for the fantastic work that they do. For many people in the city the Grassmarket Community Project which they run has literally turned their life around and given them a fair chance in work and education.”

“Not only does it boost the prospects of those from socially excluded backgrounds but it also has numerous volunteering opportunities for the wider population. There are many people in the City of Edinburgh who regularly volunteer to projects such as this one. Their generous time and effort is commendable and is the life-blood to initiatives like the Grassmarket Community Project.”
