The annual SPOKES Bike Breakfast took place at the City Chambers today as part of Edinburgh Bike Week and once again it was a huge success.

Cyclists from across the city turned up despite poor weather conditions to take advantage of the free breakfast and various bike maintenance stalls including ‘The Bike Doctor’ and a chain cleaner.

There were also various groups on hand to provide enthusiasts with information such as bike seller The Bike Station, SPOKES themselves and Lothian and Borders Police.

The Convener of The Transport Infrastructure and Environment Committee, Councillor Gordon Mackenzie, was at the event alongwith MSP Alison Johnstone, South Scotland MSP Claudia Beamish and Councillor Cameron Rose.

There was a clear message at the event today:- cycling is important, not just for congestion in the city, but it’s great for your health.

If you couldn’t make it along today have a look at our slideshow below for a glimpse of this morning’s events and also have a little listen to our vox pops to hear about the Edinburgh cycle map from SPOKES’ Ian Maxwell, the importance of cycling from Edinburgh Trams’ Mike Connelly and The Bike Station manager Mark Sydenham.
