The Queen’s birthday honours list has been announced today and we highlight the Scottish recipients here, but there are not too many from Edinburgh…..
And we were more than a little remiss yesterday in not wishing His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh a very happy 90th birthday. So here just a little belatedly, Happy Birthday! and here he is in this video……
Many reports have appeared over recent days of redundancy fears for staff at Transport Initiative Edinburgh including this one in The Scotsman. The council are holding a meeting on 30 June to decide whether to proceed with the tram project or not, but the reports required to make that decision have to be issued a week prior to the meeting. Council Leader, Jenny Dawe, admitted recently that this would be difficult to achieve. There seems to be a real fear that a decision will not now be taken about the tram project, particularly in light of the decision to delay any works on Princes Street till September.
A brother and sister who are said to be from the Edinburgh area have died in a light aircraft crash in Florida according to the BBC.
The Moonwalk is taking place tonight, so if you are out late and see a load of people wandering the streets in their (or someone else’s bra) then you will know what they are up to. The participants start from Moonwalk City in Inverleith Park and are raising money for breast cancer.
Nina Barough, the Founder and Chief Executive of the charity commented:-
“As always all of us at Walk the Walk are very excited to be returning to Scotland’s capital city. We think this year’s event is going to be the best ever, and Edinburgh will be a cacophony of sound and buzzing with energy This challenge creates a wonderful exchange, thousands of women and men will get fitter as they get ready to reach their goal and in so doing will raise millions of pounds that will make a very big difference to the lives of so many going through cancer. We have a lot that we want to achieve so we hope to make this year a fundraising best!”
