Borders club Selkirk travelled up to Myreside to play unbeaten Watsonians in a Scottish club rugby’s Premier B fixture, which turned into a bit of a nail-biter for ‘Sonians fans.
Selkirk lead up to the half hour mark with a penalty and a try in a first half which was littered with penalties and free kicks given away by Watsonians. The home side brought the score up to 7-8 with a converted try after the half hour, before Selkirk slotted another penalty over to go into half time 11-8 points ahead.
Ten minutes into the second half, the Selkirk full-back scored in the corner from a kick through by their No. 10, which was converted to bring the score to 8-18. Watsonians came back strongly and eventually scored their second, although unconverted this time, try on the 15 minute mark. 12-18 Selkirk. Not long after, the Watsonians scrum half was yellow carded for a break-down infringement, which seemed to galvanise the team into action. Watsonians pounded away at the Selkirk line, to be rewarded with 10 minutes to go with a, converted, try under the posts. 19-18 Watsonians.
Selkirk were awarded two late penalties, the second of which was almost on full time after the sending off of two Watsonians forwards. Neither were scored, which left the final score Watsonians 19, Selkirk 18.
