Joseph Richardson, from Musselburgh, has been sentenced to life in prison (minimum of 13 years, two months) after pleading guilty to the murder of his wife, Janette Richardson, in November 2009.

Richardson had killed his wife after she said that she was leaving him for someone else.

Detective Kenny Gray of Lothian & Borders Police, who led the inquiry, said:

‘We are satisfied with the sentencing, but first and foremost our thoughts today are with the Richardson family at this distressing time.

‘I would like to take this opportunity to thank them all for being so helpful, and working with the inquiry team throughout the investigation.

‘We hope today’s sentence will be of some comfort to them.’
