The sad tale is of Edinburgh pensioner John Millar, 67, who held a pillow over his wife’s face for about five minutes in an attempt to end her suffering. His wife now lives in a nursing home. More details on the new look BBC website.

The High Court recently heard an appeal against sentence by one of the eight men convicted in a trial which went on for some 10 weeks in Edinburgh last year. Ross Webber, a North Berwick bank worker was originally sentenced to 3 years 9 months on one of the charges against him. This has now been reduced to 2 years 8 months on appeal according to the written decision delivered by Lord Osborne and uploaded to the High Court website this week.

Part of the original conviction related to possessing and distributing child pornography.
