Residents from Strachan House Care Home in Blackhall, Edinburgh took part in their first ever singing group at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh.
The singing group arranged by Alzheimer Scotland supports people living with dementia, their partners, family and friends. The home says that engaging with the community is important for residents and this dementia friendly singing group supports people to do just that.
The group takes place on the fourth Monday of the month from 10.30am to noon at the Botanics.
Bernard Lennon and Rosemary Burnett the two residents from Strachan House who attended the singing group said they had the best time. The unit lead for the dementia community at Strachan House said: “It is wonderful to see our residents out and enjoying the singing group in the community. Our residents have their own choir here so how wonderful for them to take their skills and share them with others”.
Strachan House care home is run by Barchester Healthcare, one of the UK’s largest care providers, which is committed to delivering personalised care across its care homes and hospitals. Strachan House provides residential care, nursing care and dementia care for 83 residents from respite care to long term stays.
