A care home in Edinburgh has donated funds to support an important cause.
Care UK’s Cairdean House in Colinton has presented Carlops Parish Church with a £900 donation during a special cheque ceremony.
Carlops Parish Church hosts regular afternoon teas, concerts, clubs and other charitable events to raise funds for a variety of causes, including projects supporting communities in Malawi. The donation from Cairdean House will contribute to the church’s Malawi Fund, helping to support vital education and healthcare projects for children in the village of Kalumba.
The donation was inspired by resident Agnes “Nan” Buchan, 94, who has been a member of the church for more than 40 years and has dedicated much of her life to fundraising for charitable causes. A talented and dedicated knitter, Nan has handmade and donated more than 800 teddy bears to children in Malawi.
After learning about her fundraising efforts and connection to the church, the team at Cairdean House decided to lend their support.
Funds were raised through proceeds raised from the home’s summer fete in August.
Nan said: “I was pleased when the team showed interest in making a donation to the Carlops Church Malawi project and was delighted when she told me that, as well as the initial gift, we were to receive the proceeds of the Cairdean Summer Fete.
“I cannot express just how grateful and thrilled everyone in Carlops was when we learned how large the donation was to be and how much it would benefit the education and health of the children of the village of Kalumba.”
Angela Burns, Home Manager at Cairdean House, added: “Carlops Parish Church holds a special place in our hearts. The church regularly welcomes residents for afternoon teas, which bring them so much joy and provide a wonderful opportunity to connect with one another and the wider community.
“The church also means a great deal to Nan, who has been an active member for many years. Supporting causes that matter to residents is incredibly important to us, and we were delighted to make this donation on her behalf. We’re so pleased it’s going towards such an important cause.”
