Fishing retailers and angling venues are increasingly doing more than simply selling equipment or providing places to fish. At some of the leading sites in Edinburgh, there are various events held throughout the year that give people other reasons to attend rather than just to buy supplies.

In the age of streamers and YouTube series, it would make sense to accompany these events with video content. This could help the places hosting them bring in a greater number of visitors.

Could Video Content Turn Events into an Attraction?

Fishing centres in Edinburgh don’t have to limit themselves to only attracting people interested in partaking in the activity. In fact, there’s evidence to suggest that the pastime has entertainment value beyond participating.

People who play Big Bass Bonanza slot, for instance, get to experience fishing themes with colourful catches, but the gameplay itself doesn’t resemble the real-world act of fishing in any way. Likewise, when people watch series like Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing, they’re deriving pleasure from the act of watching other people fish.

Angling centres could tap into this and release entertainment of their own in the form of YouTube videos or short clips on social media platforms. This could be a particularly good way to market events and show visitors what they can experience if they attend in person. There’s already evidence from The Angling Trust’s We Fish As One YouTube series that this approach can work.

What Are Some of the Key Events in Edinburgh?

The Edinburgh Angling Centre is one example of a place where you can find varied events. There are days focusing on different aspects of fishing throughout the year. For example, the LOOP May Weekend on 9 and 10 May 2026 featured representatives from LOOP, including Gordon Armstrong and Ali Parkin, among others. Visitors could test the new LOOP Trak rods on the centre’s casting pond, giving them a hands-on experience with the experts.

The Westin Lure Fishing Day offered a different experience with a focus on predator fishing. Thom Hunt was the special guest for this one, and it featured live lure-tank demonstrations. There was also the August 2026 Casting Weekend, with casting advice from fly casting expert Simon Gawesworth.

Fishing Influencers Could Be Invited to Create Content

Aside from the angling centres creating more of their own video content to market their events, they could explore the idea of inviting fishing influencers to attend as well. These creators could post their own content about these events and share it with their followers.

There are numerous names on YouTube that have large followings in the UK. These include Fish With Carl, The Fish Locker, and Tom Wilshaw. If more of these people were invited to Edinburgh’s biggest fishing events, they could help lure in more attendees.

Edinburgh’s fishing events are already attracting interest from local anglers, but they could appeal to even more people through clever video content strategies. With many people discovering the pastime via online entertainment, this approach makes a lot of sense.
