First up were the host country team and Blaze went down 36-68 while recognising the benefits of tackling quality opposition, the club’s website stating: “They’ll be better for it.”

It is the first of three weekends of competition with Blaze due to return in both December and April when the finals and classification rounds will be held.

A Blaze spokesperson said: “This is a fantastic milestone for our girls programme and a wonderful opportunity.

“Four games in three days against teams from Latvia, Estonia and Ukraine is a different test from the domestic season.

“The club sees this as a significant moment in the group’s development with continental level opposition across the season.

“This is a series of trips to Latvia … and not a one off tournament.”
