Dunfermline Carnegie have enjoyed a trophy laden season which chairman Dejesh Deenadayalan describes as “historic” and might be unprecedented in East of Scotland cricket.
“I am saying with all humility this might rank among the greatest achievements by any club in the history of the East of Scotland Cricket Association (ESCA)” says Dejesh.
Four East league teams secured promotion with three of them winning their respective league titles:
- * 1st XI – Division 1 Champions and promoted to the Championship.
- * 2nd XI – Division 4 Champions and promoted.
- * 3rd XI – Division 7 Champions and promoted.
- * 4th XI – Promoted from Division 9.
- And that was just for starters.
- “We have already lifted the Scottish Challenge Cup (by beating Kilmarnock), the Braw Skelp Cup (a T20 competition beating Kirk Brae in the final) and the Fife Cup while remaining in contention for the Forth Valley Cup which has yet to played.” said Dejesh.
Also, the following players have been recognised by ESCA:
- * Waseem Khan, winner of the Division 4 Batting Award.
- * Albin James, winner of the Division 7 Bowling Award.
- * Miles Bond, winner of the Division 9 Bowling Award. Miles is just 15 years old and come through the ranks of the club’s junior cricket and under the guidance of Scotland fast bowler Safyaan Sharif.
Dejesh adds: “What has been especially pleasing is that contributions have come from every corner of the club. The success is a testament not only to individual talent but also to the culture, coaching, commitment and teamwork that exists throughout the club.
“A significant factor in our development has been the installation of new outdoor training nets, made possible through successful crowdfunding efforts and the generosity of many supporters. These facilities are already helping improve player development and providing opportunities for future generations of cricketers.
“I would also like to recognise Usman Saleem of Pepe’s Piri Piri, whose generosity has been exceptional. Week after week, he has provided outstanding match teas.”
Another key element has been the Sunday X1 which provides a platform for a mix of experienced and younger players.
