On Sunday the weather was kind as almost 600 people took part in the People’s Procession ahead of the arrival of 300 horses and riders led by the Rt Hon Lord Provost forming the final part of the cavalcade from Holyrood to St Giles’.
The colourful pageant was watched by thousands of spectators lining the High Street. Entertainment was provided by The Jacobites Ceilidh Band who achieved a record with 646 people dancing Strip the Willow. The band were seen in the recent Emmy award winning Half Man by Richard Gadd.
Other bands included the St. Ronan’s Silver Band, Erskine Stewart Melville School Pipe Band, George Heriot’s School Pipe Band and George Watson’s College Pipe Band.
The History Matters Reenactment Team kept the crowd entertained along with the Wild Knights Jousting & Tournaments Group, Edinburgh’s Pulse of the Place Youth Samba Band, the Mission of Innocents Ukrainian Children’s Choir and Dancers and the Nikkan Dance Academy.
The day concluded with a ceremony at the city’s Mercat Cross including a minute’s silence in memory of World War II.
