Lothians teams Gifford, Haddington, Dunbar and Livingston will be in action at the GoFibre Melrose Hornets rugby festival tomorrow (Sunday, 13th) for players aged from P3 to P7.

Some 70 teams and 1000 players are expected to participate making it one of the largest tournaments of its kind in Scotland.

The event, on the famous Greenyards pitch, will see the visitors, who also include Whitecraig and Garioch, attempt to outshine all the leading Borders outfits on a day when the parent club’s 150th anniversary will be marked by an up and coming generation.

Primarily, though, the competition is an opportunity to highlight a new three year sponsorship with Borders broadband provider, GoFibre, which will see firm’s name appear on the Hornets jerseys and also the club’s under-18 seven-a-side tournament run by the Melrose Wasps.

The firm have also sponsored the world renowned Melrose Sevens for the past three years.

Sam Calvert, Chief Commercial Officer at GoFibre, says: “As the local broadband provider for Melrose and the Borders we are proud to be headline sponsor for the Hornets Festival which is a cornerstone youth rugby tournament.

“With it being Melrose’s 150th anniversary it’s great that GoFibre can carry on our strong relationship with the club and help support the next generation of players.”

Douglas Crawford, General Manager, Melrose Rugby, added: “I’m delighted our new youth jerseys have arrived and GoFibre is front and centre as our youth sponsor for the next three years. I know all our young players will be buzzing to receive their new jerseys.
