Scotland’s cricketers will go into Sunday’s cricket world league division two match, with UAE in Dundee, secure in the knowledge that they have reached the qualification stage for the next ODI world cup.
The World Cup is due to be held in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia in late 2027.
Qualification came with a nine run victory over Canada based largely on a maiden international century from Grange batter Fin McCreath, who learned his cricket at Loretto School, Musselburgh.
With the Scots put into bat McCreath’s 112 from 135 deliveries was the mainstay of a total of 281-7 though there were notable contributions also from Michael Jones (36) and skipper Richie Berrington (29).
The Canadian reply saw them require 18 from 12 balls and 14 from the final over delivered by Safyaan Sharif, Scotland’s all time top wicket taker across all formats, but a brilliant catch from RH Corstorphine’s George Munsey wrapped up the Canadian innings.
