A new cookery school aimed at children is coming to Morningside at the end of the month.
Cook Stars will launch at McLarens on the Corner in Morningside on Sunday 31 August, offering a year-round programme of cooking and baking workshops for youngsters aged between two and 17.
The inaugural workshop will see children prepare their own chocolate and vanilla swirl marble cake from scratch to take home.
The ongoing programme aims to teach practical kitchen skills and promote a balanced approach to food, with plans to expand to further venues across the west of the city later this year.
Dawn Robertson, who is leading the new Cook Stars classes in Edinburgh, said: “Our new classes will give children across Edinburgh the chance to develop confidence in the kitchen, learn practical life skills and discover that cooking can be fun.
“We’ll also learn about different ingredients and try new foods.”
She added: “One of the best things about Cook Stars is that children can take their new skills home and become more interested in helping with family meals. When children help prepare their own food, they’re often much more willing to try and enjoy new ingredients.”
Seasonal cookery workshops are scheduled throughout the year to mark events including Halloween, Christmas and Easter.
Weekly classes for toddlers and younger children will run from 1 September until 8 December, priced at £15 per child.
One-off seasonal workshops for up to 12 children are priced at £25. Every child takes home their dish, along with the recipe card to cook again at home. Each session includes ingredients, equipment, aprons, packaging, a craft, snack and a printed recipe card.
The cookery school will also run sessions at Christ Church in Morningside and St. Ninians Church in Corstorphine as part of an upcoming expansion.
