Fire in Easter Dalmeny – people living nearby asked to keep windows and doors closed

A large fire broke out just after 7.30am in Dalmeny near South Queensferry which The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said has now been extinguished.

A vehicle – apparently an oil tanker – caught fire in the courtyard at Easter Dalmeny Farm and plumes of smoke were still visible hours after the blaze began.

A Police Scotland spokesperson advised drivers to take another route, and said: “The B924 is closed at its junction with the A90 at South Queensferry, following a report of a vehicle fire around 7.50am on Friday, 7 August, 2026. Emergency services are at the scene and motorists are asked to use another route.”

Lothian Buses diverted their number 43 service away from Main Street Dalmeny by way of Kirkliston Road and the A90. Keep up to date by following their service updates here.

Scottish Fire & Rescue Service (SFRS) despatched four fire appliances and one specialist appliance which remain on the scene. People living in the area have been asked to keep their doors and windows closed as there is a high level of smoke.

The public has been asked to avoid the area.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 7.36am on Friday, August 7, to reports of an oil tanker well alight near Dalmeny, South Queensferry.

“Emergency services are at the scene and motorists are asked to use another route.

“Operations Control has mobilised four fire appliances and specialist units to the scene and crews are working to extinguish the fire.

“We are advising people to avoid the area at this time, and anyone affected by smoke should keep windows and doors closed.”
