Edinburgh’s Jacob Fearnley is straight back into competitive tennis action tonight at the Quebec Challenger event.
Fresh from defeating USA’s Mackenzie McDonald 6-4, 7-5 Jacob now plays Canadian Alexis Galarneau (world no 185) whom he overcame in the recent semi-final of the Newport Rhode Island event, a tournament the Scot went on to win.
This time round, instead of a grass court, the pair will meet around midnight on a hard court as the build up to the US Open nears its climax.
A recent ranking boost for Jacob – he could be in the top 100 with victory tonight – has, alas, come too late to allow direct entry to Flushing Meadows but he will be in the qualifying tournament.
