Edinburgh’s new trauma-informed support hub has been officially opened by the Princess Royal to provide local crime victims with remote evidence suites.
The Princess Royal, who is president of the charity Victim Support Scotland, visited Broadside House at Powderhall Road on Tuesday 30 June.
During her visit, she toured the facilities, met local volunteers, and spoke with Edinburgh families who have been supported by the service.
The capital office features remote evidence suites that allow vulnerable witnesses to provide testimony directly to courtrooms via a secure live video link, removing the anxiety of visiting a court building.
Debbie Adams, interim Chief Executive at the charity, highlighted the value of the new local space.
Debbie said: “We are incredibly proud of this welcoming, trauma-informed space, and have had resoundingly positive feedback from people who have used our new remote evidence suites.
“Our staff and volunteers were delighted to meet her and chat about their experience working and volunteering.”
The independent, volunteer-led charity supports victims and families dealing with the impact of any crime. Local volunteers guide witnesses through the court process, offer emotional support, and coordinate with specialist services.
The official launch occurred during the Royal Family’s annual Holyrood Week, which celebrates Scottish culture, community work, and local achievements.
