New Hibs signing Nathan Lowe aims to score as many goals as possible and he is looking forward to playing in front of the passionate Hibs supporters.
Hibs had to fight off fierce competition for the sought-after striker, who becomes David Gray’s fourth signing of the Summer Transfer Window ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
A natural goalscorer and widely regarded as one of the EFL’s top talents, the new No9 arrives on a season-long loan deal from EFL Championship side Stoke City.
Despite his tender age, Lowe arrives at Easter Road with a remarkable goalscoring record across the EFL in which he has struck 31 goals with Stoke, Walsall, Stockport County and Wycombe Wanderers.
Indeed, that included being named the EFL’s Young Player of the Season in League Two following his prolific loan spell at the Saddlers in 2024/25, during which he scored 18 goals and added seven assists in 30 appearances.
Now, Lowe is ready to bring those stellar exploits to the William Hill Premiership and continue scoring goals.
“I’d like to think that the fans can expect goals,” Lowe told Hibs TV.
“I was born to be a striker, and goals are what get me up every morning to go and train, and hopefully I can add to my tally significantly here.
“When I heard about the offer from Hibs, I thought this would be a great step forward for me to play my football with a new challenge, playing against new teams, with the offer of Europe as well, so it’s a really exciting prospect, and I’m really excited to get going.
“I had two separate calls with the Head Coach, Malky Mackay, and David Marshall, and they just outlined the way the Club wanted to go, and when doing my research into the Club, into the fanbase and just seeing how passionate the fans are, getting the chance to play at Easter Road, getting the chance to play away at all these massive stadiums, it’s just a real challenge, and one that I’m ready for and looking forward to.
“They outlined what a Scottish football fan would expect as well, which is being hard-working, first and foremost, and then letting your quality shine through.
“They want me to come here and give it my all and just endear myself to the fans and try and score as many goals as possible, really, and I think that would benefit us all.
“I think one thing about me is that you can say whatever you want about me, but I will be in the area to score the goals because that’s just the only reason I play football: to score goals.
“It’s one of those where I can’t say I promise the world goals, but what I can promise you is that I’m going to be in a position to score the goals, and I’ve got the ability to go and score them, so there’s no reason why I can’t be successful at this Football Club.
“That’s the only assurance I can give at this moment in time, but hopefully we look back at this in a year’s time and it’s all gone really lovely.”
Lowe was spotted by Stoke City when at his local boys’ club, Egerton, and joined the Potters’ academy as a ten-year-old in 2016, and he provided a telling insight into his hugely successful journey as a professional so far.
“I came through at Stoke, and I’ve been there since I was ten,” he added.
“I played a few games here and there before my first loan, went to Walsall for six months, had a good loan spell and then came back and played a fair few games for Stoke upon my return the second half of the season.
“Then, I spent last season on loan at Stockport County and Wycombe Wanderers, so I’ve been around the EFL, and that’s why I thought about a new challenge and one that I’m excited about playing in the Scottish Premiership.”
Having spoken to Lowe for the first time, you find a confident and clever young man who is excited to take the next step in his successful footballing journey so far.
So, it was no surprise to learn that when deciding to switch from Staffordshire to Leith, the 20-year-old was keen to get the inside track on the Club – and he did so with hours of research into the Hibees.
He added: “Admittedly, before the call, I didn’t know as much, but after hearing everyone talk about it and when going off and doing my own research, it was sort of a no-brainer.
“I think finishing fifth last season might have been a bit of a disappointment to the fans and to the people because I think Hibs’ typical aim is to finish third or higher, so I think there’s no reason why this season we can’t go and do that and have a good run in Europe and a good run in the cup competitions.
“Scottish football has this massive buzz around it, especially from the fans and from everyone surrounding the Football Club.
“That connection between the Club and the fanbase is maybe not as common in England, as there are more teams to support as well, and I think that’s a big selling point for Scottish football.”
And he believes he can complement his fellow forwards and is excited to learn and compete with the likes of Owen Elding, Ante Šuto, Thibault Klidjé and Martin Boyle.
He said: “I’m by no means the finished article, nor will I be by the end of this loan, but what I do want to do is give it my all on the training pitch and sap as much as I can from the Head Coach and the experienced players.
“I’ve played a fair few games at my age, so I’ve got an element of experience as well that I can bring to the team, and I like to think I’ve got an older head on younger shoulders.
“Every season I go into, my aim is to be the top goalscorer in the league, and sometimes it’s paid off.
“I always believe in setting yourself high targets, and if you fall short, you fall short, but I want to be the top goalscorer in the Premiership this season, and I want Hibs to finish as high as possible this season and have a good run in European competition.
“These things are what you strive for, and then you reassess at the end of the season and see how many of them come true.”
Lowe could make his first appearance for Hibs pre-season friendly against Brøndby IF on Saturday, and he hopes to make an instant impression in front of the Easter Road faithful.
“I’m really looking forward to it,” Lowe continued.
“That’ll be my first pre-season game this season, so I’m really looking forward to getting out there and hopefully scoring a few goals in front of the fans before the first proper game of the season in Europe the following Thursday.”
