Former Director of Culture and Wellbeing at Edinburgh Council, Joan Parr, has been appointed trustee and Chair-elect of third sector organisation, Luminate.
The charity is the leadership body in Scotland which ensures that older people’s creativity can flourish whatever their circumstances, experience or ambitions.
Ms Parr will take up the position in September at the organisation’s AGM.
Before becoming a director at the council, she worked for Creative Scotland for 13 years as head of creative learning and director of arts and engagement.
The organisation plans to develop a new more locally focused programme with community partners. Ms Parr will guide Luminate with these ideas.
Ms Parr said: “Since its inception I have admired the important and pioneering work of Luminate to advocate for and grow creative practice by, with and for older people. The benefits of participation in the arts and creative activity for individuals and society are increasingly recognised, with a growing understanding that our later years can be a period of continued creative development, and powerful evidence of positive impacts on health and wellbeing. I am delighted to have the opportunity to contribute to the work of this excellent and vital organisation.”
