Hibs head coach David Gray has provided an update on injuries to his squad ahead of their return to European football against KF Malisheva in Kosovo on Thursday night.
Callum Wright was taken off through injury before half-time at Easter Road in yesterday’s victory over Brondby IF while Martin Boyle went down injured in the second-half.
And he also gave an update on other absentees Nicky Cadden and Jamie McGrath.
He added: “I think it’s just more precautionary [with Callum] than anything else.
“He was just feeling his thigh a little bit, and we’re hoping it’s just more fatigue and tightness.
“He was one that missed a bit of pre-season at the start with a toe injury.
“He was always down to try and play some more minutes today, but he came off, and he was able to walk off, so it’s not as if he’s definitely felt something, and we’ll just have to assess that one.
“The other ones obviously missing today were Nicky Cadden and Jamie McGrath, who have picked up a bit of a calf issue.
“Nicky will be a wee bit longer, so unfortunately for him, he might be a few weeks, whereas Jamie we’re hoping to be back in days rather than weeks, which is more positive on that front.
“It’s a wee bit frustrating because you want to try and get everybody through pre-season, but apart from that, there were a couple of other bumps and bruises today.
“Boyley (Martin Boyle) just got some late contact before he came off, but everybody apart from that came through pre-season, and now we’re all looking forward to Thursday.”
Hibs return to competitive action starts against KF Malisheva in Kosovo in the UEFA Conference League Second Round qualifying, and Gray says the excitement is building and the momentum is growing ahead of our clash with Thomas Brdarić’s side.
He said: “I think that’s what pre-season is all about to the players.
“As much as it’s probably not as bad as it used to be when pre-season used to be really gruelling and all about running and never touching the ball, I think it has very much evolved.
“But everything you do in pre-season is all geared up to try and give you the best chance to be as strong as you can on that first competitive game.
“We’ve got a real difficult task ahead of us, but one that is the rewards for everything we earned last season, and we want to go and make sure we give a real good account of ourselves, and that starts on Thursday.”
