A top suggestion for outdoor dining is Scotts in South Queensferry where the owners Buzzworks have created an outdoor/indoor space at Outboard.
The Port Edgar location has a full dining space under cover and an outdoor area with picnic tables where diners can make the most of the scenic waterfront location – and the weather.
The great views are the same as they have always been but Outboard has been remodelled for the summer season – and the Buzzworks chefs have created tasty dishes to tempt Edinburgh diners out of the city.
The new menu ranges from seafood offerings with Lobster Thermidor and seared scallops ravioli, to vegan and vegetarian options aplenty with Bang Bang Tenderstem with toasted almond and Sriracha dip, and salt and chilli crispy cauliflower, served with steamed coriander rice, stir fried peppers and red onions in a ginger and soy dressing. Staff take time to explain the menu and are attentive to detail in taking the order and serving the quality dishes.
The idea is to offer a menu with classics such as Prime Rib on the bone – we tasted not just any prime rib but Hereford from Carluke which had been dry aged for 28-days by Edgefield Craft Butchers from Carluke.
For the less hungry there is a refreshing feta and watermelon salad, which could be served alone or followed by pan-roasted chicken breast served with preserved lemon thyme jus as well as many other options for light lunch or dinner. The emphasis is on fresh seafood with langoustines finished with caramelised lemon butter or Peterhead haddock fish and chips with thick-cut fries, chunky tartare sauce, minted mushy peas and chippy sauce.
The desserts are divine – and yes the Belgian Dark Chocolate Dome is spectacular as it melts when the warm caramel is added – and ideal for sharing if you absolutely have to.
The service was excellent on a recent visit, with staff who are eager to ensure that any meal is an experience to remember.
All dishes are served with a range of cocktails or soft drinks – or an excellent choice of Cloudy Bay wines.
Jamie McFadyen, General Manager of Scotts, said: “Our new menu reflects everything we love about spring and summer at Port Edgar.
