Officers in Edinburgh are asking for the public’s assistance in tracing a man who contacted police with concerns for his welfare. 

At 5.05pm on Thursday, 18 June, 2026, a call to police was made from Nicolson Square.  

The caller hung up and is believed to have left the area on foot a short time after, in the direction of South Bridge. 

Officers attended the area and searches were carried out, including a CCTV review. 

The man officers are seeking to trace is described as white, of medium build, and is aged between 30-40 years old.  

He had short brown hair and short brown facial hair. He was wearing a navy sweatshirt, dark green or grey trousers and grey trainers with white laces and a white stripe motif on the side. 

 He was carrying a rucksack on his back and a bottle of water in his hand. 

A police spokesperson said: “If anyone knows who this was or has information that can help identify and trace him, please contact police as soon as possible. “

Information should be passed via 101 and quote incident number 2472 of Thursday, 18 June, 2026.
