Dig out your waterproofs and water pistols as the 78th Edinburgh Taxi Outing sets off from Edinburgh Zoo this Tuesday.
The outing is organised and funded by Edinburgh taxi drivers and offers a day out for children with additional needs, life-limiting conditions and terminal illnesses.
The taxis are decorated with balloons or as floats and drivers assemble at the car park at Edinburgh Zoo (behind the Holiday Inn) for 9am where judging and presentation of prizes by the Rt Hon Lord Provost of Edinburgh takes place for best float taxi, best balloon taxi, best fancy dressed driver and best fancy dressed child.
A spokesperson for the taxi drivers said: “We then leave Edinburgh Zoo Car Park at 10am heading under police supervision through the city and along the coast to Archerfield Walled Garden (between Gullane and Dirleton, East Lothian) with a stop outside S.Luca’s in Musselburgh to refill the water tanks and to eat as much ice cream as possible. Once we reach Archerfield it’s a fun-filled afternoon before heading home about 4pm.”

This year the organisers have encountered some difficulties in ensuring that there would be a licence in place and also that Police Scotland outriders could accompany the outing as normal, and at one point thought that cancellation would be the only option.
These have now been resolved, and organisers received their license on Monday morning.
