A University of Edinburgh student and junior swimming medalist will make her Commonwealth Games debut, weeks after graduating from university.
Ciara Schlosslan, who studies Politics, Philosophy, and Economics at the University of Edinburgh, is vying to bring back a medal from the Games.
Ciara is one of Scotland’s most promising swimmers, being described as the country’s “leading butterfly specialist” by the University of Edinburgh.
The Leeds-born swimmer achieved a silver medal at the European Junior Swimming Championships in 2017 in the 200m Butterfly.

Ciara said she was “so excited” with the Games under a month away.
On her expectation for the event, Schlosslan said: “I just want to put together some really good races, my best performances, enjoy the moment, and then I would like to get a medal if I can as well.”
She has achieved impressive times in the 50m and 100m butterfly races, recording a 26.93s and 58.97s time in both events in 2025.
A full-time student, she has had to balance her training with the demands of being a top-level athlete, which she has described as “challenging.”
Ciara said: “I’ve actually got my graduation day next week, the day after the kitting out day for the Commonwealth Games, so it’s all ‘go, go, go’ at the moment.
“It really helps when you enjoy what you’re doing, and I know people say that a lot, but I really enjoy PPE.
“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my degree, and I love swimming here at Edinburgh as well.
“So that’s why the University of Edinburgh has been perfect for me, because it’s allowed me to enjoy and get the most out of both of them, my studies and swimming.”
She added: “I wouldn’t be able to do without the support network around me, be that in the university, where there is dedicated personnel to help me within the PPE degree, as well as the sports, and juggling it all, and then my friends and family.”
