Four Scottish gardens including two in the capital have been named among the UK’s best to visit this spring.
The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE), Dunrobin Castle in Golspie, Sutherland, Edinburgh’s Princes Street Gardens and Glasgow’s Botanics all feature in the UK’s top 20 “spring gardens”.
The research, by leading photo printing company CEWE, ranked Kew Gardens in London top, ahead of Chatsworth House in Bakewell, Derbyshire, based on Google star ratings, number of reviews and visitor review sentiment.
The RBGE came third after analysis of over 24,000 reviews including 656 “spring-related” reviews including descriptive terms such as “must see”, “finest” and “exceptional”.
Dunrobin Castle and Princes Street Gardens ranked 12th and 13th respectively, while Glasgow Botanic Gardens was rated 18th in the list, which features “well-known gardens and hidden gems” across the UK.
Scotland’s leading spring garden, The Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh, was founded in the 17th century, and is one of the oldest botanical gardens in the UK.
It is home to 13,500 plant species from 157 countries. Spanning 70 acres, highlights for visitors include the Rock Garden and Woodland Garden, together with panoramic views of the city skyline.
