On Thursday the 30th of April 2026, Dalkeith and Livingston Roads Policing Officers supported by the motorcycle unit deployed to a layby on the A1, near to Burnmouth, to conduct a static road check.
Colleagues from SEPA were also in attendance, to provide specialist support and advice.
During this time multiple vehicles were stopped and checked, including heavy and light goods vehicles and cars. Multiple offences were detected, including: –
-3 vehicles being driven without insurance
-3 vehicle being driven carelessly
-1 driver arrested for failing a roadside drug wipe
-3 vehicles being driven with defective tyres, deep cuts/cord present and below minimum tread depth
-Numerous minor lighting offences.
Officers employed various means of dealing with offences identified, including submission of reports to the Procurator Fiscal, Conditional Offers (points/fines) issued at the roadside and requirements to have defects addressed, within 21 days, under the vehicle defect rectification scheme.
Vehicles were also prohibited from use on the roads, due to them presenting a danger to public safety and will not be permitted to return to the roads, until the defects are addressed.
A police spokesperson said: “We will continue to carry out activity, of this nature and work alongside partner agencies, to ensure our roads are safe.
“Road safety is a priority for Police Scotland.”
