A total of 175 probationers marked the start of their policing journey at a formal ceremony in the organisation’s training headquarters, Tulliallan, on Thursday, 21 May 2026.

Chief Constable Jo Farrell addressed the new recruits and issued them with their warrant cards, granting them legal policing powers.

She said: “The responsibilities of a police officer are considerable and our latest cohort of probationers are now accountable under Scottish policing law.

“I thank them for stepping forward to serve our communities with integrity, fairness and respect, and for the benefit they will bring to the wellbeing of the country.”

There are 117 males and 58 females in this latest intake bringing officer establishment to 16,494.

Three of the recruits were serving special constables and 15 have previous military service.

They will deploy to communities on 21 September following the initial stage of their two-year probationer training.
