Kailzie Estate welcomed an estimated 200 visitors from across the region to the Tweed Trout Festival which marked the opening of the 2026 River Tweed season.
A piped procession, led by Sebastian Vardy, son of Kailzie Estate owners Richard and Louise Vardy, alongside his friend Harry Dodds, opened the official events on the day.
Louise Vardy cast a quaich of whisky into the river, a symbolic gesture of gratitude and respect for the waters, accompanied by the sound of bagpipes.
Louise, owner of Kailzie Estate, said: “There is something special about gathering by the river to mark the start of a new season. It is a moment that brings together tradition, community and a real sense of connection to the water.
“To see so many people here, sharing in that experience, is incredibly rewarding and a reminder of how important the River Tweed is to all of us at Kailzie.”
The estate then welcomed families, first-time casters and experienced anglers.
Connor Newcombe, who heads Kailzie Estate Fisheries, said: “The opening of the season is always a special moment, but to see so many people come together for the procession and ceremony made it particularly memorable. It was a fantastic way to begin the year on the river.”
