Millhall hosts the final of the Scottish Stillwater Bank Championships on Sunday, April 12, and locals confirm that the water near Polmont is fishing well.
A floating line with buzzers have been the most successful tactic in recent days and 24 angers are set to cast a line at the weekend.
A practice day has been set aside for Saturday, April 11, but space is limited and this must be pre-booked by phoning the fishery on 07939 437691.
Meanwhile, 37 rods were out at Linlithgow Loch and 179 were hooked (13 kept, 165 released) in mixed weather with gusts and rain, especially Sunday when there was heavy snow.
Best tactics were floating, midge-tip and Di3 lines and blob, diawl bachs, dry, cormorant, muskins, snakes, UV crunchers and UV lures were among the most effective patterns.
Euan Myles with his wife Jaq had a great four-hour session releasing 25 trout caught mostly on buzzers.
Mark Smith and Mark Lawton returned ten fish as did Marty Nelson and Charlie McGrath, out alone, returned 23 trout using a midge tip and Di3 line.
Craig Cowan also enjoyed his session fishing solo and he released 17 rainbow trout and Graham Hoggan, out with Tam Robinson, released 20 fish. Jimmy Russell and Gavin Dunn returned ten fish and Simon Kale and partner returned 20.
Linlithgow Loch is restocked regularly and boats are available for either a full-day or four-hour session. Advance booking is recommended to avoid disappointment by calling 01506 671753 or booking online.
Tom Lambert, secretary, of Linlothgow Loch Fishery, has received an email from Euan Moyles on his fishing trip to the water.
He said: “Just to say my wife Jaq and I had the most amazing day fishing and we managed an amazing total of 25 fish in only four hours. They were all top-quality fish and fought like demons. I managed only eight fish compared to my wife Jaq who had 17 with the biggest at 7lb. My excuse was I was too busy netting her fish to catch any myself.”
He added: “What an amazing venue you have so good to see fish moving everywhere there was a brilliant hatch of midge and we swapped to washing line and I was getting them on vicar buzzers and emergers fishing a FAB at the end, but most of the fish early came to a green headed black dancer.
“What’s amazing is that she completely out fished me fishing only one fly while I had three or four of them just shows you.
“Can’t wait to get back and fish this brilliant venue again when it heats up a bit.”
