For the first time as part of an initiative run by the Hibernian Community Foundation, Hibs fans will be given the chance to grace the Easter Road pitch, following in the footsteps of their heroes from both past and present.
Over the course of the day a number of different groups will have the opportunity to play football on the hallowed turf at Easter Road.
Starting with a Play on the Pitch Camp in the morning (Under 12s), HCF’s walking football participants will then take centre stage, before an adults’ tournament (over 16s) will close the day out.
“The Ron Gordon Football Classic is all about giving everyone a chance to play on the famous Easter Road pitch,” said HCF Managing Director, John MacMillan MBE.
“Regardless of age, ability, mobility or fitness, everyone should have the opportunity to live their footballing dreams at Easter Road, and we want to provide that.”
The Ron Gordon Football Classic honours the legacy of former Hibernian FC Chairman Ron Gordon. A passionate family and community man, Ron cared deeply about providing opportunities for all members of the community, whether that be at Easter Road or in the wider Leith and Edinburgh Community.
Running alongside the Ron Gordon Football Classic will be the Hibernian FC Open Door Day – giving season ticket holders the chance to enjoy a day on the Easter Road pitch!
As part of the club’s Open Door Day, supporters will be able to enjoy a range of activities, including a Ten-minute Tunnel and Changing toom Tour, as well as the Hibernian Historical Trust Exhibition in the Edinburgh Club, showcasing historical artefacts and memorabilia.
For younger fans, there will be a range of activations to enjoy on the Easter Road pitch, including our inflatable games, as well as Hibs Kids activities in the East Stand concourse, where kiosks will be open for food and drink to purchase. In recent years, HCF has hosted Ron Gordon Football Challenges and Festivals at Hibernian Training Centre, challenging participants to play football for 15-24 hours before providing them the opportunity to be coached by their favourite Hibs’ footballers.
“This year we wanted to offer a fresh take after a few years at HTC,” continues John.
“We’re hoping to see some familiar faces from previous years, while also welcoming new members looking to take in Easter Road and everything that makes it special. Any monies raised will be allocated to help the life changing and life supporting services the HCF provide to vulnerable people.”
