During Festival of Europe Scotland there is an ongoing exhibition at the Central Library on George IV Bridge displaying Kukeri Dancing.
This is an ancient Bulgarian tradition using dance to ward off evil spirits and embrace spring.
The free exhibition will include masks and drawings by children from the First Bulgarian School Nadejda Stancioff – Lady Muir Edinburgh. The art is inspired by Kukeri Dancing which is an integral part of Bulgarian culture.
The exhibition continues during the Festival of Europe Scotland which runs in Edinburgh and elsewhere from 7 to 17 May. The festival’s 2026 programme includes talks, debates, walks, films, dance, art, music and community events. Many events are free, with in-person gatherings in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Kirkcaldy, South West Scotland and Stirling.
The exhibition at Edinburgh Central Library is produced jointly by the Traditional Dance Forum of Scotland in partnership with Bulgarian Cultural and Educational Centre Scotland and Two Destination Language.
Free and open to all daily Mon-Sat 10am-5pm with late nights until 8pm Mon-Wed until 21 May 2026 at the Edinburgh Central Library (Grand Stairway) 7-9 George IV Bridge, Edinburgh EH1 1EG.
