Young people from two secondary schools in Edinburgh, Castlebrae Community High School and George Watson’s College will get together on 12 March to discuss life in the city.
Audience members are invited to join them to hear what will then be fed back to community councils and other organisations. The young people want to include their parents, community groups and business people as well as anyone who cares about Edinburgh. This is a chance to listen to wha the young people have to say and think about what comes next. The event is free but book a place below.
Pupils from schools in the east and south west of the city have spent the past two sessions preparing to guide discussions about life in Edinburgh identifying key issues affecting young people and their communities.
Rather than adults leading the conversation, the young people themselves have outlined the discussion prompts and identified who they believe should be part of the dialogue.
Pupils have said it is important that the room reflects the wider community – including parents, older generations, housing associations, small businesses, and local residents from different backgrounds.
The event is run by The Roots Programme, which creates structured spaces for people from different backgrounds and experiences to connect and reflect together.
The conversation will be facilitated by the young people themselves and will focus on questions such as what works well in Edinburgh, what challenges communities face, and what young people would like to see change.
Organisers say the event is also an opportunity for residents to support local young people who have spent time preparing to lead the discussion.
The Community Conversation takes place on 12 March at Castlebrae Community Campus in Niddrie.
Local residents and organisations are invited to attend.
